A thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test is used to check for thyroid problems. TSH makes two important hormones that regulate your body’s metabolism. If your thyroid function is low, you’ll experience hypothyroidism; if it’s too high, hyperthyroidism results.
The procedure involves drawing blood into a test tube, which will be sent to a lab for analysis. You may feel nothing at all from the needle, or you may feel a slight pinch. Appointments are brief and usually take no more than 15 minutes.
