Mammography (mammogram) is the use of X-ray imaging to detect breast cancer, and can also help detect the difference between benign and malignant tumors. Mammogram screenings improve the likelihood of detecting cancer at an early stage. When cancer is detected early enough, the likelihood that it will be curable is increased.
Sprig Health providers offer Mammography Screening, which does not require a doctor's order. They also offer Diagnostic Mammogram (diagnostic breast evaluation), which does require a doctor's prescription. Unlike screening mammography, a diagnostic breast evaluation is performed when you have a lump, discharge, pain or other unusual symptoms
During a mammogram procedure, your breast will be compressed against a flat surface in order to flatten out the tissue and improve the clarity of the images. Some discomfort may be felt from the compression, and you may be asked to hold your breath for short periods. Images are taken from multiple angles, and the procedure usually lasts about 30 minutes.
