Vaccinations, also known as immunizations, can be used to prevent such diseases as measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough). Flu shots, or influenza shots, are given seasonally (usually between October and May); other vaccinations are given at different times throughout a person’s life.
Some vaccinations are given by physicians and require appointments, others can be given at pharmacies on a walk-in basis. You can expect to feel a slight needle sting during the vaccination and may experience mild muscle soreness at the injection site the day after the procedure.
