Tuberculosis skin tests, also known as Tuberculin Skin Tests, Purified Protein Derivative (PPD), and Montoux, are designed to test for Tuberculosis, or TB, in certain individuals. There are various circumstances that can cause concern over TB infection, and this test is useful for addressing those circumstances.
A TB skin test will include injecting a small amount of Purified Protein Derivative under the skin, and then examining the reaction. There are other forms of TB testing, such as Interferon-gamma Release Assays, which will require small blood samples. Some clinics require a physician order to get a TB skin test. Please see procedure details.
